Podcasting Module
Podcasting is the method of distributing multimedia files such as audio programs over the internet, for playback on computers or mobile audio players like MP3 players.
Typically a podcast is a digital recording of a radio broadcast or similar program, made available on the internet for downloading to a personal audio player
Podcasting take its name from Apple Computer’s popular “iPod” music player and the word “broadcast”, although podcasts can be utilised by any type of MP3 player.
The Podcasting module in Armelenos allows Learners to link to podcasts that are available to them, and then the relevant audio files are automatically downloaded to their computer or MP3 player.
Podcasts are often used for radio shows but other uses include school lessons, conference meetings, and the distribution of messages to people.
Once the URL link to the podcast has been established utilising podcast software such as iTunes, then all new information regarding that podcast is made available to the Learner when new content is uploaded. There are many podcast software programs you can use and most of these are available free of charge.
You can also manually download individual episodes in a podcast if this has been allowed by the Trainer who set up the podcast. This is useful if you need to download the audio from a lecture you have missed, or when only certain episodes of the podcast are of interest to you.
Podcasts are a useful way of providing audio learning content in that can be accessed by Learners in remote locations, and used to study at their own pace.
The features in the “Podcasting” module include the ability to:
  • Allow Learners to receive updated content without having to log into Armelenos;
  • Allow Learners to learn away from their computers using mobile audio players;
  • Upload multiple “Episodes” into podcasts so that the content in podcasts can be added to at a later date;
  • Associate “Keywords” with podcasts so Learners can locate podcasts quickly by using the search feature in their podcast software.
