Competency Testing Module
The “Competency Testing” module on Armelenos has been designed so that assessment tests can be created quickly and easily to measure the skills of people.
Pre-Training Tests
Assessment tests can be used before training is undertaken by Learners to ensure that they have the required minimum skills to attempt other forms of training.
Classroom training is an expensive medium for teaching so it is always desirable that both instructors and students can maximise their potential whilst courses are being delivered. A pre-test will ensure that all learners have the minimum level of knowledge required for the training they are about to undertake. In classroom training this allows the instructor to proceed at a pace that will be suitable for all attendees.
Pre-tests also can be used to perform a skills gap analysis and then provide training that is suited to each individual Learner.

Post-Training Tests
Assessment tests can also be created for post-testing so that you can measure the skills of people that have completed training. This could be a training course that was provided in the classroom, or a training course that was provided via e-learning.
Post-tests allow you to check what people have learned to make sure that they have the minimum skills required for a task or job function. For example, training like Health and Safety or Financial Compliance training often put the onus and legal responsibility on the organisation to ensure that their personnel understand what is required of them in their job roles. Failure to meet these commitments can result in prosecution and fines for an organisation from the relevant legal bodies.

The “Competency Testing” module in Armelenos allows the Trainers to create on-line competency tests quickly and easily.
Each on-line test is made up of one of more question groups, which in turn is made up of one of more questions.
There are three types of questions you can create which are:
- Questions with True or False answers;
- Questions with Multiple Choice answers (min 2 and max 10);
- Short Answer questions that require a written response from the Learner and are manually marked by their Manager.
You can also add multimedia elements into the questions such as videos, audio files and flash animations to make the questions you ask more interesting and relevant to Learners.
You create the questions and then organise them into groups which are called "Question groups”. These “Question groups” are then used to make up competency tests. Grouping questions this way allows you to apply certain attributes to each group as well as the ease to re-use them in other tests.
For example, you might make a question group called “Introductory Questions” which contains generic questions that are relevant in many tests. So rather than having to re-create these questions, you can simply add the “Introductory Questions” group to each test.
The Question groups can have differing attributes, which are:
- Questions in the group are compulsory and randomised;
- Questions in the group are compulsory and not randomised;
- Questions in the group are not compulsory and randomised.
When creating a competency test, you can specify that the Learner must achieve the required pass mark for each question group before they are granted access to the questions from the following group.
This allows you to stop the Learner from advancing to more complex questions if they do not achieve the minimum score from the current question group.
The features of the “Competency Testing” module include the ability to:
- Create questions that have True/False answers;
- Create Multiple Choice Questions with differing numbers of answers;
- Create Short Answer Questions that require written responses from Learners;
- Create Question Groups with questions that are compulsory and randomised;
- Create Question Groups with questions that are compulsory and not randomised;
- Create Question Groups with questions that are not compulsory and randomised;
- Create competency tests where Learners must achieve the minimum pass mark to proceed in the test;
- Insert Multimedia elements into questions;
- Create Question Groups that can be re-used easily in other tests;
- Receive notification of any short answer questions from Learners that require marking.
